Recession? What recession? If you ask us, the tremendous number of Web searches on "black friday deals 2009" are an indicator that the holiday shopping season may be a very profitable one for retailers.

For those who don't know, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, during which stores across the country try to one-up each other with outrageous sales. This being early November, the big day is still weeks away, but aggressive shoppers are already scoping out the various deals.

Over the past week, we've seen big Search bumps on "black friday 2009," "black friday ads," and "black friday rumors 2009." And indeed, there are a lot of rumors floating around. Some blogs predict an epic battle between Wal-Mart and Amazon. Others wonder if the Sears ad has anything worth fighting the crowds for. Also buzzing: Best Buy's "VIP contest."

We have no idea which store will offer the best deals to groggy shoppers, but we can safely predict that the searches are only going to get bigger. Buyer beware...

"searches" means nothing. I've been shopping in LA on Black Friday and unless they're going to significantly reduce the prices, it's not what's its cut up to be at all. Similar to the housing market; really not dropping to the point below inflation at all, neither are rents. Total media hype.

This year will be some big deals out there, but there will be less people spending. Americans have not firgured out how to stop acquiring future debt to pay for the pass. what will we do if we could not keep up with the jones. Main st. thinks it has keep up with its Jones (Wall st.) but forgetting mrs Jones has a weathly husband (U.S. Goverment).

Every day is a 'black friday" for some Americans,,, but between Wal Mart and Amazon....I say go Amazon... prices better, shipping sometimes is free, larger choices. Better yet America, skip Christmas and watch the big boys (Wall Street, Amazon, Wal mart, Kmart etc) cry...... we can have a quiet Christmas for a change, and that may change everything. Acquiring worthless stuff is not what Christmas is about.
