  • Madoff, Sanford, and FSU: Buzz Week in Review

Nothing moves the search needle like scandals. This past week, it wasn't so much the scandals themselves, but how people reacted to them that stirred the Web. Read on for the scoop on three big transgressions. Here's hoping next week is a bit more honorable.

    Ruth breaks her silence
While many may find comfort that Bernie Madoff will die in prison, others couldn't help but wonder what his wife thinks of his spectacular fall from grace. Until this week, Ruth Madoff had kept silent. Some interpreted that as meaning she didn't care about the victims of her husband's crime. Not so, says Mrs. Madoff. On Monday, she released a statement that reads "not a day goes by when I don't ache over the stories that I have heard and read." Searches on Mrs. Madoff soared 2,754% over the past seven days, due in large part to the $2.5 million of shared assets the government is letting her keep. According to insiders, she tried for the fur coat, but the feds said no dice.

    All eyes on Jenny Sanford
Mark Sanford's wife Jenny may have forged a new path for spouses of unfaithful politicians. Following her husband's press conference in which he admitted an affair, Mrs. Sanford said that "his career is not a concern of mine. He's going to have to worry about that." Then, after the governor's most recent admission that he had crossed lines with other women, his wife issued another statement that said that in the "spirit of forgiveness, it is up to the people and elected officials of South Carolina to decide whether they will give Mark another chance..." In other words, she forgives him, but don't for a second think she's going to forget. Queries on "jenny sanford biography," "jenny sanford photos," and "first lady jenny sanford" all posted breakout gains in Search.

A tomahawk chop to the win column
Florida State University made some noise in the Buzz after claiming that the NCAA sanctions over the school's academic cheating scandal are just too darn tough. The NCAA had elected to punish the Seminoles by taking away wins from some of Florida State's athletic teams, including 14 victories from football coach Bobby Bowden. Why does Florida State care so much about past wins? The fact that Mr. Bowden is currently one victory behind Penn State's Joe Paterno for all-time victories is likely contributing to the outrage. Queries on "fsu scandal" and "bobby bowden wins" both spiked this week. This article from Sports Illustrated offers an in-depth explanation of the hubbub.

    Also buzzing this week...
    • Johnny Depp's "Public Enemies" sparked renewed interest in bank robber John Dillinger.
    • The world's obsession with Megan Fox continued unabated.
    • Obama's White House released the salaries of all its staff.

Oh yes, these are really tough words...haha
Mrs. Sanford will get everything she deserves for thinking she can get Gov. Sanford to roll over, sit, beg.....he doesn't love her, and she just doesnt want to move out of the mansion.....she will have control over him like a dog for sure...have a great life you two.....the other love will always be in the back of his mind.....this will not make a shread of difference in the end to your children.....you are evidently too weakminded to make it on your own...

Who cares what an arrogant rich Jewess thinks, who gets to keep $2.5 million in stolen money, and however much she has stashed away in secret bank accounts?

As for Jenny Sanford, if she had any self respect, she would throw him out.

If Mrs. Madoff is sooooo concerned about what she and her husband did to all these investors, why is she not giving up all her money to the people and living a simple life in a small apartment...to show she doesn't want to benefit from the money that drove at least one individual to kill himself? Basically folks, she is so full of s&!t that it's sickening. But no one will demand anything from her....

Ruth Madoff is a crook that reaped the benefits from her husband's illegal activity! She needs to be in prison along with her husband. My parents live in Palm Beach, and Bernie Madoff is very lucky that he didn't screw my parent's out of thier life savings or he would've ended up in a ditch somewhere! He is a real piece of crap, along with his wife (who claims she did nothing wrong) When judgement day comes you criminals are screwed!

Women are pros at phony sincerity, they can cry on cue, and smile on cue. I would take all the money that was stolen and return it back to the victims. As for her husband, hang him in the public square.

This bitch knew her husband was destroying people and charities. She just turned a blind eye to it because she is a whore. How could Madoff do this for 20 years without her knowledge? And it breaks my heart she couldn't take a fur coat made of dead animals with her. If there is a hell both her and her husband deserve to suffer for eternity!

Yeah, Madoff's old lady is lucky she isn't walking the streets. She knew what was going on. Where did see think all that money was from. How can leave her with 2.5 million take it all and have her get a job.

What is wrong with these politician's wives? Don't they have any self respect or dignity at all? It turns my stomach every time I hear of a story like this where the politician is fooling around behind her back and she forgives him. How nauseating. And don't tell me it's for the kids. They are more resilient than that. There simply are no standards left in this society. Anything goes. I say throw the bum out and get on with your life. Why don't YOU run for his office after the voters throw him out. You would do a better job since you seem to be much more hontest than he is. I simply do not trust anyone who cheats on their spouse.

Poor Mrs. Madoff. What is an aging trophy wife to do ? Keep those glutes tight honey, and you might have to settle for a mere old millionaire, but it beats dumpster diving ;)....I suppose a millionaire meal ticket is dumpster diving, eh? Honest to God, the nerve of these people is exasperating.

I'm still wondering why Hillary didn't dump Billyboy..As for Madoff, hopefully she will invest with some crook who bilkes her out of her savings..Come to think of it, I've got this swamp land in Kansas that I'd sell her for a great price. And Sanford, she ought to de-nut him.

Why is it when someone commits a white collar crime they are not made to make total restitution. We have a guy in my town who screwed over the government through bogus contracts and his old lady still lives in a beautiful Victorian home that most of the rest of town couldn't afford. Madoff's old lady should be living in a a one room flat and living day to day, like many these days. I feel no sympathy for her or her victims. We all lost money with the stock market etc. it's just that Madoff's clients were more greedy and lost more. Legalized gambling. As for Sanford, there's an oxymoron for you, a cheating politician!!!

Mrs. Madoff should be left penniless, she has no right to any of the money her husband stole. Keeping it should be seen as knowingly possessing stolen property and she should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. People are jobless, homeless and those of us who actually work for a living are a single wrong step from being jobless or homeless. Stupid rich bitch should be ashamed.

That husbands did it, and until any of you can be in their place, I think you should just leave the wives alone.

The very worst and most despicable thing that Bernie Madoff did is that, now, many skinheads will say that Madoff proved that Hitler was right and simply unable to complete the task.

Madoff should be sitting in a cell 2 blocks down from hubby.

Sanford doesn't care enough about her sons or she would have left the idiot who loves himself more than he loves them.
