I worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 7 years and saw how BNSF was always doing things better. I think BNSF will only get stronger and this was a smart buy. BNSF just does things differently, the only disadvantage they have is that they cannot grow as much as they would like, because UP is so established in many large cities and its cheaper for them to just pay UP to ship to cities that BNSF doesnt serve. UP is larger only because they've been around longer.

IT TAKES REAL "B***S TO BUY A 19TH CENTURY TECHNOLOGY

Or does it?

We must also remember that with this (ancient) technology comes also the right-of-ways and geography to actually transport stuff. I think he believes that "physical property" is at least as important as the old methods used to go back and forth on top of it. So, in a real sense, he is buying land that connects with other land.

Railroads have owned this property for centuries, so it is unlikely that there would be any legal challanged to developing it in the future. All those challenges have already been "worked through."

There might still be difficulties with environmental groups if he wants to put (say) super-trains on them. But at least ownership will not be an issue.

Isn't that just the smartest thing..something we did years earlier!! The railroad has always been, what I thought, the best way to deliver all kinds of things..people, animals,products..And I hope it gets back to that..that would make more jobs..and maybe help with the pollution too! You go Warren!! Now would you please help out the widows and widowers in this country..cause no one else does!! And I am one of those..Maybe I can get a job on the railroad!! Cause there sure ain't many for us older people!! LOL

We will see how smart he is. I envy his confidence, but question his sanity. I would like to see rail transportation come back, especially in areas as congested as the East Coast and the West Coast, and between points like Cincinnati and St. Louis. But he will have to make it pretty lucrative and NOT dependent on oil produced energy. Good luck!

Obumma doesn't like rich White Guy's. Unless of course you donate big time to his campaign which Mr Buffet did. So relax Warren, the Commie isn't coming for your money.

Warren's not so hot. He is simply looking for a tax shelter since the wealthy will ultimately have to help pay for health care in America for most of you. He no doubt ably will pull this money back out of investment whenever the Republicans regain The White House. I think it's all kind of hoggish of him. Mr. Buffett obviously don't believe in anybody can opposing him. Now you see if wasn't for the government regulating Old Warren would have us all eating out of his hands by now. King Warren of America, kind of has a ring to it.

" A White Sportcoat and a Pink Crustacean" was my favorite Buffett album. The guy came a long way, and made a lot of money, to be able to buy Burlington Northern. Hope he tours next summer, and keeps writing books. An investment book would be appropriate.

Here is an extremely interesting article from Feb. 7, 2009.
It's kinda spooky because it lays out exactly what has already happened, and what is continuing to happen right now under our noses.
Yahoo won't let me put it up because it was already buzzed up 9 months ago......crystal ball or reality?

Here's the Baffooonnnn Scam.

Get all the money you can by scamming folks. Sound familiar??

Skim 20+% right off the top, don't forget the quarterly fees of 2% whether the investment goes UP or DOWN.

Get rich without taking any risk yourself.

Baffoonn hasn't had a winning trade since 1973-4. That's a fact!! Check it out.

Baffoonnn is just another Bernie Ripoff who hasn't been caught yet.

Do not invest with this guy!!!! Total SCAM!!!!
