Americans of Japanese heritage served during WW2 without putting Buddhist doctrine ahead of military commitment. Germans and Italians didn't let the Lutheran or Catholic Church dictate how they would serve.
Muslims cannot make the same commitment to the US military. Islamic doctrine trumps all else; family, employment and yes, even US military service.
US military service is voluntary. Muslims should not be allowed to serve when they display they cannot put their service above the dictates of Islamic principles.
Is this denigrating Islam? Don't even go there. Muslims can worship as they please within American law, but they don't have the right to allow Islamic principles to trump commitment to our national defense.

My deepest sympathies to the families affected by this tragedy. It is another case of the men and women who serve in our military not receiving the proper care they need and deserve during and after service. Sena Downing was murdered in September by her soldier husband after he snapped and thought he was back in Iraq. Violence is not isolated, just swept under the rug. It takes a mass murder like this to make people notice and then all they do is blame it on Islam. Our soldiers are fighting for our freedom. While I don't agree with war, I support our troops and their families. Every soldier deserves the best medical treatment.
