Business week writing about cars is like car and driver writing about investments . While I agree most cars that they show are truly ugly the El Camino is a real dyed in the wool classic , obviously the author of this piece isn't a car person . Maybe you guys should stick to telling people how to invest so the can loose their shirts in the stock markets.
Not even the high-and-mighty Japanese auto makers are immune to such farcical design mistakes.
I strongly disagree about the El Camino. I guess that's a matter of taste. The Pinto's design while dated looking in hind sight was actually not bad looking at the time. Same for the Mustang II. Prior to the Fox platform Mustang, it was the best selling Mustang body. So, it couldn't have been all that hideous. The Gremlin is gorgeous up against its big sister, the Pacer. While I'm on AMC, even having Christopher Lee drive a one in "The Man With the Golden Gun" couldn't make the butt ugly Matdor cool. And, how could you forget the semi fastback saloon style GM A Bodies of the mid-late 70's, truly vulgar. Finally, you people didn't dig deep enough, the ugliest car of ALL TIME is the Citroen 2CV followed very closely by the Renault LeCar. The El Camino is breathtakingly beautiful against those 2. Bloggers, look those 2 up and tell me if you don't agree.
What about Chrysler's K Cars, some of the late Kaisers, the early 60's upside down bathtub Rambler Americans, the 70's Fiats (Not the Spyder), the Erkel Isetta, and for that matter the original Volkswagen Beetle? The list could go on for a month.
